The modern resurrection of Norton takes a bold step forward with the 2027 Norton Atlas. Ditching retro-nostalgia for a sleek, contemporary design, the new Atlas aims to carve out its own niche in the middleweight adventure segment.
Digging a little deeper into our Highs and Sighs, we detail the biggest pros and cons of Norton's latest model.
High: Lithe handling
The chassis geometry, 19-inch front / 17-inch rear wheel setup, and wide handlebar give the Atlas an exceptionally nimble, quick-steering feel that stays composed at speed.
High: Punchy Twin
The proprietary 585cc parallel-Twin delivers immediate throttle response, spot-on fueling, and strong, engaging torque output across the rev range.
High: Solid Ergos
For me, at 5'8" with a 30-inch inseam, the overall ergonomics offer a comfortable, natural, and accessible riding position for tackling long stretches on the road.
Sigh: E-key is a constant headache
The “e-key” proved to be a major headache. Instead of a proximity fob, starting the bike requires pressing an "unlock" button on the fob itself. Accidentally hitting the frame's on/off button meant digging through wet rain gear with bulky gloves to hit the button again—one rider even shut his bike off while bending down to remove his footpeg rubbers. Fortunately, Norton engineers mentioned a standard proximity fob is already on the way.
Sigh: Some questionable UI choices
Navigating through the bike's screen menus and interface presents a few awkward, unintuitive design decisions.
Sigh: Electronic rider aids need some fine tuning
The overall electronic package — including the quickshifter calibration and drag torque control characteristics — requires further refinement to feel smooth and cohesive. Thankfully, the niggles we had with the Atlas are only an OTA update away.
The Verdict
The 2027 Norton Atlas brings a fresh, accessible approach to the mid-weight ADV class with great handling, punchy power, and solid ergonomics. If Norton can sort out the electronic niggles, the Atlas stands out as a unique and compelling option in the adventure market.
