Ducati Collezione 100 Hypermotard V2 SP 100 Gallery
Endurance Racing Heritage
The striking livery of the Hypermotard V2 SP 100 is directly inspired by the graphics of the historic 860 “24 Horas de Montjuïc”.
Following their landmark victory at the 1972 Imola 200, Ducati management determined that the definitive path to revitalizing the brand's global popularity lay in production-derived racing, with a particular focus on grueling endurance events. To successfully execute this strategy, Ducati needed to expand its twin-cylinder lineup by developing a larger-displacement engine than its classic 750 powerplant. This new engine had to be robust enough to withstand the immense physical stresses of legendary long-distance endurance races like the Bol d'Or and the 24 Horas de Montjuïc — a race the Borgo Panigale manufacturer would ultimately go on to win multiple times.
The Ducati 860 made a triumphant competitive debut in 1973 as the prototype Ducati 860 Desmo, a machine that would eventually evolve into the iconic road-going Ducati 900 Super Sport. In 1975, superstar riders Salvador Cañellas and Benjamin "Min" Grau — who had previously secured a victory in 1973 aboard a Bologna-built twin-cylinder — repeated their incredible success at the Catalan endurance race. This time, they claimed the top step of the podium flying the vibrant, bright colors of Giorgio Nepoti and Rino Caracchi's legendary NCR racing team.
