The Birth of an American Icon
The livery of the Scrambler 100 draws direct inspiration from the graphics of the 1962 250 Scrambler, which stands as the very first version of the Ducati Scrambler and was produced exclusively for the United States market.
The origins of the Scrambler are intimately tied to Joe Berliner, Ducati's first American importer, who strongly advocated for a new model tailored for stateside riders. At the time, Ducati was riding a wave of global media success following Leopoldo Tartarini and Giorgio Monetti's epic 1957 round-the-world motorcycle tour. The immense hype surrounding their venture crossed the Atlantic and significantly raised the profile of the Bologna-based brand, which until that point had been virtually unknown in America.
Capitalizing on this momentum, Berliner requested that Ducati develop an off-road dirt bike — a concept that had never previously been envisioned or considered at the Borgo Panigale factory. Ducati rose to the challenge, bringing the idea to life with the debut of the 250 Scrambler in 1962.
