Yamaha Electric, HEV, PHEV Prototypes at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show
Yamaha Motor Co. announced it will present a number of prototypes at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 at the Tokyo Big Sight from October 29 to November 9. Yamaha says it will have 16 models including six making their world premiere at the show. The exhibit will include an electric sportbike, a hybrid scooter, a plug-in hybrid naked bike, and the latest versions of the MOTOROiD and Tricera vehicles Yamaha previously displayed at past shows.
PROTO BEV
The PROTO BEV is an electric sportbike bearing several R-series design cues. Yamaha says this "working prototype" was created to show the "fun that can only be experienced with a large-capacity battery EV."
PROTO HEV
The PROTO HEV is a series-parallel hybrid prototype, combining an electric motor and an internal combustion engine into a form that looks halfway between a scooter and a motorcycle. Yamaha says the HEV can switch freely between two distinct performance characteristics (i.e. ride modes): Serene and Spirited. The hybrid powertrain is proprietary, with Yamaha claiming a 35% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to bikes with a similar level of performance.
PROTO PHEV
The PROTO PHEV draws obvious inspiration from Yamaha's MT naked models (in particular the MT-09, which appears to share the chassis and its 890cc Inline-Three with the PHEV). A plug-in hybrid, it can operate in either full EV or hybrid mode, as needed.
MOTOROiD:^
Yamaha first introduced its MOTOROiD in 2017 as an autonomous self-balancing two-wheeler. The concept has evolved several times since then, with the latest version offering the most minimalist design yet.
TRICERA Proto
The Tricera prototype is another rehash from a previous concept. The "working prototype" is a three-wheeled autocycle similar to the Polaris Slingshot, but powered by an electric motor.
H2 Buddy Porter Concept
Jointly developed with Toyota, the H2 Buddy Porter Concept is a hydrogen-powered scooter with roof, like BMW's C1 scooter.
Y-00B Base
The Y-00B is an eBike concept with a minimalist frame that houses a compact battery.
Y-00B: Bricolage
The Bricolage version is a retro-styled take on the Y-00B inspired by Yamaha's original YA-1 bicycle, the company's first product, introduced 70 years ago, in 1955.
e-Axle
The e-Axle is an electric drive unit Yamaha hopes to market to carmakers. Currently under development, the e-Axle employs a 3-in-1 structure, integrating the motor, inverter, and gearbox into a single unit. Yamaha says it will be available in different voltages, ranging from 350-V to 800V, with power outputs ranging from 200 kW to 450 kW (292 hp to 612 hp).
NACTUS VS TRE-X
The NACTUS VS TRE-X is a three-wheeled electric wheelchair with a JWX-2 electric power-assist unit. The two larger 26-inch wheels are clad in off-road mountain bike tires, helping it navigate on rough terrain that will challenge most conventional wheelchairs. The long front frame provides rigidity whole also supporting a front carrier rack, large footrest, and a waterproof battery case. The NACTUS was developed with the help of Nissin Medical Industries Co.
ONE-MAX Urban
The ONE-MAX Urban is a futuristic-looking wheelchair powered by a JWG-1 electric power unit. The wheelchair uses an attachment system to allow users to customize its appearance and functions as needed. The chassis has a latticed seat design for a light weight that helps reduce user fatigue.
ONE-MAX Historical
The Historical version offers a more retro look. Its chassis is designed to handle cobblestone surfaces, such as those often found in historic districts and temples and shrines around Japan.
