The CFMOTO 1000MT-X is Coming To America As The 2027 Ibex 950
But will it arrive before the KTM 990 Adventure?
The CFMOTO 1000MT-X has been certified by the Environmental Protection Agency, opening the door for it to enter the U.S. market. First announced last November at EICMA, the 1000MT-X will be classified as a 2027 model, and will be sold as the CFMOTO Ibex 950.

The new name follows CFMOTO’s branding for its U.S. adventure lineup, where the 950 will slot in beside the Ibex 800E and Ibex 450. Like its siblings, the Ibex 950 carries a bit of KTM DNA, a product of CFMOTO’s partnership with the Austrian brand. Comparing the Ibex 950 with a stripped-down 890 Adventure R illustrates the similarities between the two bikes. The steel trellis frame looks identical, though there does appear to be a new rear subframe. The Ibex also employs a KTM-style saddle-shaped fuel tank, which lowers its center of gravity.
There are some differences, of course, with the prime one being the Ibex’s engine. That’s because the 946cc parallel-Twin appears to be based on KTM’s LC8c 990 engine, with similar engine casings and an identical 92.5mm bore and 70.4mm stroke. CFMOTO claims a peak output of 111.3 hp at 8,500 rpm and 77.4 lb-ft. at 6,250 rpm, which indicates a more adventure-friendly state of tune than the 990 Duke’s engine, which claims 123 hp at 9,500 rpm and 76 lb-ft. at 6,750 rpm.
Of course, it stands out that CFMOTO has lapped its orange partner by launching the 1000MT-X globally before KTM has even announced a 990 Adventure model. With its financial issues, KTM has had to make a lot of adjustments to its product launches, with some of its models getting pushed back a model year or two (the 1390 Super Adventure S EVO, for example, was originally due as a 2025 model, but is now coming as a 2027). We still expect KTM to come out with an 990 Adventure at some point.
In Italy, the CFMOTO 1000MT-X starts at €10,490 (US$12,350), compared to the 800MT-X’s MSRP of €8,990 (US$10,600). In the U.S., the Ibex 800E retails for $10,299, which means we estimate the Ibex 950 will come in around $12,000.
