Honda Opens New Factory In Turkey
Current annual production capacity of 100,000 may expand to 200,000
Honda has opened a new factory in Aliağa, Turkey, its 38th motorcycle production plant and the latest step in its plan to gain a 50% of global market share.
The latest facility went online in April, and is set up for an initial annual capacity of 100,000 two-wheelers, with room to expand to up to 200,000 units a year. Based on the images included in the release, we know the factory will be making PCX scooters, though we don't know what other models will be rolling off the assembly line.
Whether or not the factory actually builds 100,000 motorcycles in a year will depend on a number of factors, both internal and external, but the figure highlights the sheer scale Honda is working at. Since 2018, Honda has been producing over 20 million motorcycles and scooters a year, so even if it worked at maximum capacity, the Turkish factory will only represent 0.5% of Honda's total motorcycle output. Honda currently holds an estimated 40% share of the global motorcycle market, with a goal to hold a 50% share by 2030.
