In Gear: Alpinestars MO.ST.EQ Field Waterproof Primaloft Jacket Review
A winter riding jacket with style
By definition, winter riding gear has to meet one basic demand: keeping you warm. But since winter is also associated with rain, it makes sense for a winter garment to also keep you dry at the same time. Gear makers have been pumping out jackets for years with the ability to do both at the same time, but usually winter motorcycle jackets look very much like, well, winter motorcycle jackets. Style hasn’t really been a top priority.
In Gear: Alpinestars MO.ST.EQ Field Waterproof Primaloft Jacket Review
Alpinestars is looking to change that with its MO.ST.EQ (Moto Streetwear Equipment) line of apparel, starting with this, the Field Waterproof Primaloft Jacket. The operative word in the MO.ST.EQ line is “streetwear.” These are garments that look good both on or off the bike, but can protect you in all the usual ways you’d expect a piece of motorcycle apparel to.
With the Field jacket, the street style comes through in its design. The jacket looks nearly like a shortened trenchcoat, while the velcro arm adjustment straps give something away that this might be more than a blazer for cruising the town. A lightweight ripstop material forms the main construction and features a built-in waterproof membrane. As you can see here, the jacket is mainly for three seasons, but especially the colder and/or wetter days. There’s a removable thermal vest made from 100% recycled Primaloft insulation material for warmth. It has its own style and convenient pockets, making it perfect for wearing independently of the main jacket.
On the protection front, the ripstop material will help fight off road rash, and there’s CE level 1 Nucleon Flex Plus armor in the shoulders and elbows, the latter being externally removable.
