When we headed out to Northern Ontario, Canada in the early Fall last year, I knew we were going to face the exact kind of messy, unpredictable conditions that push adventure gear to its limit. That is precisely why I chose to pack the Alpinestars Toucan Gore-Tex Boots. The Dainese Misano 3 D-Air Women’s Leather Suit is a premium, AAA CE-rated track suit featuring a fully integrated airbag that shields the neck, shoulders, and collarbone. Driven by an intelligent 6-axis sensor network of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and GPS, the system analyzes data 1,000 times per second and deploys a patented two-inch thick microfilament air barrier when a crash is detected. A key generational update allows for three deployments before requiring factory servicing, though the internal gas cartridge must be swapped after each inflation. 

Dunlop introduced the new Geomax MX54, a replacement to the MX53 as the brand's choice motocross tire for intermediate to hard surfaces.

Pirelli didn’t specify the popularity of MotoAmerica’s Mission King Of The Baggers Championship, or the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup, but something compelled the Italian tire manufacturer to engineer a new performance tire for the cruiser crowd. Enter the Diablo Powercruiser, a tire that, at first glance, reveals its high-performance intentions through a tread pattern more akin to a Diablo Rosso IV sportbike tire than to its cruiser counterpart, the Night Dragon. The large slick area between the edge of the tire and where the rain grooves end provides a larger contact patch than Pirelli’s own sport-touring tire, the Angel GT.

For motorcycle riders, hearing protection is one of the most overlooked pieces of safety gear. It’s not going to protect you should the unfortunate happen, but you may be happy 30 years from now when you can hear your kids or grandkids screaming in your ear, er… bad example.

The REV”IT! Victoria 2 jeans offer a lived in look with plenty of built-in protection to keep you safe and comfortable on or off the bike. Fit is said to be slim and high waisted, though from our experience, you may want to consider a size smaller than what the size chart suggests. We opted for the Classic Blue Used color option for the more traditional denim look.

Earlier this week, KTM revealed the 1390 Super Duke RR Track, an even more extreme take on the street-legal double R, and the Austrian brand's first production naked track bike.

Don’t let the silly name turn you off from these Cortech leather gloves. Despite being named after an action we, as professional motorcyclists, don't condone, the Mirror Breaker glove from Cortech is a solid option for a low price. Made from drum-dyed cowhide leather on the top of the hand, the Mirror Breaker’s construction is rounded out on the palm with a faux goat leather, which offers touchscreen capability on the fingers, and extra cowhide overlays throughout for better abrasion resistance. TPU sliders can be found across the top of the glove on the knuckles and pre-curved fingers, adorned with stainless steel accents.

For the longest time, Alpinestars had complete motorcycle protection — for everything except your head. For the dirt crowd, that changed in 2018 when the Supertech M10 was introduced. Street riders, and track riders in particular, had to wait five more years for the introduction of the flagship Supertech R10. It was clear the SR10 was a racing helmet first and foremost, developed with input from MotoGP riders and subjected to years of wind-tunnel and track testing. It’s a great helmet, but one with a clear bent towards racing. And it’s also over $1000. Nonetheless, for Alpinestars’ first real foray into street helmets (it produced a scooter helmet years ago, but we don’t really count that one), it makes sense to enter the scene with a halo product. In that regard, the SR10 delivers.

Simplicity goes a long way in my book. Sometimes, all you need are the basics when bopping around town, which is precisely what the Spidi Originals Enduro provides. Fashioned after a classic four-pocket utility jacket, the Enduro leans into a classic aesthetic while adopting highly breathable modern textile fabrics and CE-rated armor. Two of my favorite things in motorcycling are lightweight sportbikes and trackday tires. Tornado 4 H2O jacket and pants is a solid three-season – maybe four if you’re hearty enough – kit from the Dutch brand that stretches deep into the heat of summer, and pretty far into the winter or fall depending on your tolerance. The Adventure segment is one of the strongest in the two-wheeled world. That fact hasn’t escaped Italian motorcycle apparel maker Alpinestars, which headfirst dove into the ADV space several years ago. I’m not an expert when it comes to reviewing video cameras. As you guys know, I’m a motorcycle reviewer. My life revolves around twisty roads, track days, and figuring out which tire will survive a summer of canyon carving — not frame rates or f-stops. But as someone who spends as much time filming around bikes as I do riding them, inevitably I find myself learning a thing or two about action cameras and which ones work better than others. Because it has become a household name now, I’ve naturally been drawn into the GoPro ecosystem for years, but as time has passed, the 800-pound gorilla in the action cam space has been reigned in — and surpassed — by its competitors. Enter the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro. In my opinion, the new King of the action cam arena.

Pity the poor fool who’s got nothing to do for a week or two but roll around on his motorcycle – no job, no cares, no particular place to be. And if you’re fortunate enough to have all those things working in your favor, chances are you’re carrying around quite a bit of loot in the saddlebags and trunk of your Goldwing, Ultra Glide or big BMW K-bike – possibly even an accomplice. Welcome to another episode of In Gear, and this time around, we’ve got the Arai Contour-X. First released in 2023, the Contour-X has two clear mission objectives: make it sporty and as comfortable as possible. But that doesn’t mean the Japanese brand is forgetting all that we know it for, because the hallmark traits of excellent peripheral vision and top-notch build quality are still major pieces of this premium helmet puzzle.

After attempting to destroy the Pando Moto Boss DYN 01 jeans with my trusty Benchmade, a hammer and chisel, and a hand saw, it was the roar of the circular saw that brought me to my senses. Of course, I wasn’t actually going to use a circular saw on my favorite pair of riding pants just to prove a point. Naturally, there would have been damage, but most likely it would be to myself, my saw, and possibly our videographer.

Walk into any motorcycle shop and you’ll likely see a wall full of helmets for sale. Obviously a helmet is a vital piece of safety gear you that shouldn’t skimp out on, but which one should you pick? Beyond deciding on the graphic you like and making sure the fit is correct, the main consideration should be which safety rating the helmet meets. But this can be tricky – rookies and veterans alike can have a hard time wrapping their heads around the different ratings. And what do they even mean, anyway? It turns out, they mean a lot. It’s literally the difference between a potentially life-saving device and a decoration. Understanding motorcycle helmet safety ratings is crucial for riders. These ratings indicate that a helmet has passed certain tests and meets specific safety standards. Here's a breakdown of what those ratings mean.

By all accounts, the Copper V3 riding jeans by Alpinestars is just another pair of riding jeans – and you know what? That’s basically true. However, I’ve worn them more than any other pair of riding denim I’ve owned for a few reasons. First, the Copper V3 doesn’t try to distinguish itself as something other than a pair of jeans, like riding denim I’ve had in the past. These comfort fit, five-pocket jeans have a straight leg cut that would be hard to tell apart from your average pair of non-riding jeans – I like that. The obvious difference are the aramid fiber panels placed in strategic areas (butt and knees, mainly) of the Copper V3. This gives it a little extra protection from abrasion and road rash should you become separated from your motorcycle.

The world of high-performance motorcycle gloves is chockful of options. If you ask me, I recommend always reaching for whatever has the highest protection available, like what you’d see with a full gauntlet-style glove. Enter the Alpinestars GP Pro R4 glove, which fits that description, well, like a glove.

The Sidi Crossfire 3 has been a staple of the Italian manufacturer’s line-up for some time. Now in its third iteration, the boot has been further refined to offer adjustability, comfort, and replaceability. The boot is made up of various plastic panels and Sidi’s “technomicro” microfiber, a material lighter and more durable than leather that can resist water damage. Though heavily reinforced with plastic, the boot remains pliable, ensuring comfort. A standout feature is the replaceable components – shin plates, calf plates, and hyperextension blocks can be swapped out as needed. The hyperextension block protects against ankle hyperflexion, while the TA sole (stitched rather than replaceable like the SRS version) enhances enduro performance.

If you’ve followed the MO pages for a while, you’ll know our collective stance on airbags. However, for those new to these parts, let’s get you up to speed. In late 2022 I was hit by a car. I flew over the bars, somersaulted in the air, landed on my upper shoulders/lower neck area, and did another somersault or two before coming to a stop. I was able to walk away with nothing more than some soreness and bruising, and I credit much of that to the airbag I was wearing. That airbag? The Alpinestars Tech-Air 5.
