KTM’s partnership with German tuning house continues with new model based on 1390 Super Duke R EVO

KTM and German tuning house BRABUS have teamed up once again with another limited edition model. Based on the KTM 1390 Super Duke R EVO, the BRABUS 1400 R Signature Edition, will be limited to a run of 100 units worldwide for a price of €41,933 (US$48,380).

The 1390’s DNA is quite apparent in the BRABUS 1400 R, as the 1,350cc LC8 V-Twin engine, steel trellis frame and subframe are visibly similar. BRABUS claims a peak output of 190 hp and 106 lb-ft., both unchanged from the Super Duke R. What BRABUS did change was the exhaust, adding a slip-on silencer mounted under the tail to create a clear look at the custom Monoblock II EVO “Platinum Edition” forged and CNC-machined wheels.

BRABUS designed the bodywork from carbon fiber, supplanting the KTM’s sharp lines with rounded edges. The side panels extend even further than the Super Duke’s bodywork, creating a forward heftiness supported by the carbon belly pan.

The LED headlight uses a stacked configuration similar to the KTM’s, but the daytime running lights were replaced with two vertical light bars inspired by BRABUS’ signature stripes.

The back of the fuel tank is covered with a carbon fiber wrap featuring a grip pad made of Dinamica, a suede-like microfiber. The same material is used along with leather for the 1400 R’s solo seat.

The WP APEX Semi-Active Technology suspension system is unchanged from the Super Duke R EVO. It uses electronically controlled magnetic valves to adjust damping in real time. For the brakes, however, BRABUS swapped out the KTM’s Stylema calipers for Brembo’s HYPURE calipers, which are supposed to be 10% lighter. The two front calipers are matched with 320mm wave-style discs. For the rear, a twin-piston floating caliper is matched with a 240mm wave disc.

Each BRABUS 1400 R Signature Edition model comes with a number of accessories including a leather ignition key cover, a carbon fiber key box, a display carpet, and a CNC-machined tabletop emblem.
