2025 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Gray Ghost – First Look
Icon model celebrates 35th anniversary of the Fat Boy
Harley-Davidson announced the latest addition to its Icons collection with the new, chromed-out Fat Boy Gray Ghost. Celebrating the 35 years since the Fat Boy’s debut, the Gray Ghost will fittingly be limited to a production run of 1,990 units, with a suggested retail price of $25,399.

The Gray Ghost features what Harley-Davidson calls a Reflection finish. The mirror-like finish was created using a physical vapor deposition “PVD” process, which Harley-Davidson has used in the past on smaller parts such as tank medallions and exhaust shields. The fuel tank and fenders of the Gray Ghost are the largest items Harley-Davidson has ever painted using this process. The result is a chrome-like appearance that Harley-Davidson says is more comprehensive than traditional chrome plating, and more resistant to corrosion.
The PVD process starts by vaporizing a solid material (in this case, an aluminum alloy) in a low-pressure environment, and giving it a positive electrical charge. The Gray Ghost’s fuel tank and fenders are given a negative charge before being exposed to the vapor, which causes the alloy to bond and condense on the surface. A clear coat is then applied, completing the reflective finish.
Other styling cues include an individually numbered tank console, a three-dimensional tank medallion, and a leather seat with laced trim and tassels. Like the regular Fat Boy, the Gray Ghost comes with Lakester cast aluminum wheels.
The Gray Ghost is powered by the Custom version of the Milwaukee-Eight 117, just like the regular Fat Boy. For the Icon model, the engine features yellow trim, matching the details added by Willie G. Davidson on the original Fat Boy. Unlike the regular 2025 Fat Boy, the Gray Ghost has a round air cleaner like the original 1990 model. As a result, the Icon model claims an output of 101 hp at 4,800 rpm and 122 lb-ft. at 3,000 rpm, compared to the regular Fat Boy’s claimed 104 hp and 126 lb-ft. figures.
The Gray Ghost is otherwise similar to the regular Fat Boy, including all the new features introduced for the 2025 model year. This includes selectable ride modes, lean-sensitive electronics, and updated suspension.

PT Barnum said it best, "There's a sucker born every minute", and with HD models that's a self evident truth, clearly.
